Name: Bramble Sour
Brewery: Gipsy Hill, London, England X People Like Us, Copenhagen, Denmark
Type: Kettle Sour
First tried: 440ml can
A very tart sour with a sharp sour taste, underlying fruit smoothie flavour of blackberry, raspberry and lingonberry. A tasty beer but possibly too sour for some people.
Brewery: Wander Beyond Brewing, Manchester, England
Type: Berliner Weisse
First tried: 1/2 pint @ Star and Garter, Bromley
A tart, deep berliner weisse sour. Rich with a dark blueberry taste. It doesn’t taste like it’s 7%!
Name: Damn Dead Strawberry
Brewery: Wild Weather Ales, Silchester, England
Type: Strawberry Lactose Sour
First Tried: 1/2 pint @ The Rusty Bucket, Eltham
Very light flavour, super fruity with a slight sour after taste. A delicious crisp sour with a pungent smell of creamy strawberries.
Name: Mel ‘N Mint
Brewery: Pilot Beer, Edinburgh, Scotland
Type: Watermelon, Mint & Hibiscus Semi-Sour
First tried: 330ml can from Waterintobeer, Brockley
The official beer of the Edinburgh Craft Beer Festival, May 2019. A deliciously fragrant watermelon scented beer, which is super light and refreshing. It would be easy to drink a few of these. The only disappointment is that it’s not very minty.
Name: Stone Fruit and Amarillo Sour
Brewery: Brick Brewery, Peckham Rye, England
Type: Kettle Sour
First tried: 1/2 pint @ Brick Brewery Taproom Peckham
Light, fruity and almost slightly creamy sour. This is dry and citrusy, I think it would be easy to have a few glasses of this.
Brewery: Oedipus, Amsterdam, Netherlands
First tried: 330ml bottle from The Offy, Whitstable
This beer isn’t for me, which is unusual because I do love a saison. It has a complex but light beer / saison flavour with lemongrass and Szechuan pepper. I do love Oedipus and their branding, I’m hoping to visit their taproom in Amsterdam soon.
Name: Queer Royale
Brewery: The Queer Brewing Project x Affinity Brew Co, England
Type: Blackcurrant Ale
First tried: 1/2 pint @ Little Faith, Deptford
Full of fruity blackcurrant flavour, the Ribena of ales! A juicy, light and refreshing pale ale. This is a beer for everyone, which is apt given the values of the brewers.
